World of Wheels 2010

2/21/2010

I received my notification that Crusty was accepted in the Motorama section at the World of Wheels this year to be held in Rosemont. So I got up this morning, cranked up the heat in the garage and started working on Crusty and got a to do list done, nothing major, I have to make a hinged bed floor and cover it with the old bed cover and then make some storage boxes under the bed cover to carry tools and supplies. I need to go to my dads house and poke around in the garage for some steel valve covers and an over flow catch for the radiator. I want to change the alternator to a converted one wire generator but we will have to see how the cash flow situation pans out, otherwise I'm excited about getting Crusty out and show'n her off and just getting away and having a good time that weekend. I'll update my progress as I'm working on it.

My First Stripe and Lettering Job

This is my first attempt at striping someone’s I don't know bike. My friend Matt asked if I would do this for him because the bike is entered in a show this weekend in Rosemont. I wasn't sure about it but I think it came out ok, of course Melissa says I am my worst critic. It took a while for the customer to pick the font for the lettering. I cut the lettering with my plotter and matched the color to the seat, I tried to mix the One-shot for the striping to match the seat also and in person its a good match, here it looks a little brighter, Take a look:

I will have better photos from the show and I'll post them. I'm working on Nikki's guitar next.

2/15/2010 Monday night

Well Monday was my birthday and it was great, well the evening was. I had to let an employee go for several reasons and one was for refusal to do his job description. See we are a collision & restoration shop and when we don't have 2010 Mazda's or GMC's to work on we do restoration work and one of the projects is Melissa's Dad's 1974 Maverick. He refused to work on it twice and I let him go for this and several other reasons, but that just business.

Monday night was awesome, we made pizza and salad and sat around and just shot the sh*t with Jamie & Nikki and Jamie decided to spend the night. Monday was also the day that we found out that Dena & Garrett are going to have to have a Boy. Jamie and I were joking that he's going to be a rock star because in one of the ultrasound photos his foot was folded and look like his penis but huge!

I'm excited as well as Melissa for Dena & Garrett and hope it all works out and the family can get along with one another and show them support and love which they will need in the years to come.

The Kids....

TJ on Friday by the shop looking for mice. It was pretty comical watching her plow the snow with her face. She didn't catch anything. I have been working with her walking off leash for about three months now, I started while we were at Mom & Dads, their property backs up to about 400 acres and I would take her out there and work with her.
It was sunny and warm in the sun on Saturday, Murphy stood by the back door just screaming to be let out and once Melissa let him out he started screaming to come back in but wouldn't step in the snow, it took Melissa bribing him with food to get him back in.

Update on Dad's Maverick

Febuary 12, 2010
We had a bit of a slow down in our work schedule and we started on Dad's Maverick last week. The first step was to disassemble and inspect it. We found very little rust but the car had been in a front end collision at one point in its life and not properly repaired, so all the fender to hood to door gaps were off and that needed to be corrected and Victor started on that:
Victor ended up cutting the seized fender bolts off in order to align the drivers side door & fender:
Melissa sent the bumpers out to get a quote for re-chroming and when that quote came in she started to cry! I searched for aftermarket bumpers but they don't make to much reproduction stuff for a 1974 Maverick. So I guess we will have to scratch the money together to have the bumpers re-chromed. We are also looking for a windshield and a gasket. Little by little as our money is available we will get this car done for the King of the hill, its important to Melissa and I that we complete this for him.
